Fly Patterns British Columbia

Every Fall millions of salmon migrate to BC rivers and creeks to spawn. Providing an excellent fly fishery. Coho, Pinks, and Chum salmon are known for taking the fly. However Chinook and Sockeye salmon will take flies. Salmon take flies out of reaction or aggravation, and not in order to feed. Migrating salmon are not feeding fish. Therefore, most effective patterns are bright flashy patterns. Coho may be the one exception, they will often take small subtle patterns. Fly fishing for Steelhead can be very effective in certain rivers. In fact, summer run steelhead have been known to take a dry. To take full advantage of the salmon and steelhead fly fishing fishery, the fly fisher should have a wide range of steelhead and salmon fly patterns.
